Brett graduated in medicine at The Flinders University of South Australia and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Melbourne. He completed his orthopaedic training in Victoria with admission to the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2006. 
    
After working for 18 months as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon in Victoria, he then undertook international sub-speciality training in the UK at Oxford, Cambridge and London. 

During his time in Oxford, Brett obtained extensive experience in joint revision surgery (incl. tantalum metal reconstructive and femoral replacement technologies), hip resurfacing, hip arthroscopy and unicompartmental knee replacement. In Cambridge, he focussed on sports knee injuries, arthroscopic multi- ligament reconstruction and knee replacement surgery. While in South West London, he specialised in computer-assisted knee arthroplasty, soft tissue reconstruction and research. 

Returning to Melbourne at the end of 2009, Brett commenced consulting at the Mercy Private in East Melbourne. He currently operates at the Mercy and Vimy House hospitals. Brett has a public appointment with Western Health and services the Western, Sunshine and Williamstown hospitals in areas of elective and trauma surgery.
